The Importance of Attendance
We want all our students from Pre-K to Fifth Grade to have the best experience they can possibly have at PS 158. The best way to ensure that your child is reaping all the benefits that our school has to offer is to make sure that he or she promptly attends school every day.
On those occasions when illness or emergency prevent your child from coming to school, email your child's teacher and copy the Parent Coordinator, mary.semack@ps158.net. If your child is absent for three or more days, please provide your teacher with documentation explaining the absence (doctor's note, etc) upon your your child's return. In order for an absence of any duration to be noted as medically excused there must be a doctor's note.
In the event that your child is absent 10 or more days, cumulatively, without explanation, a letter will be sent home requesting documentation supporting the absences.
Please make every effort to schedule appointments, vacations and other activities outside the school day.
Your child's consistent attendance will also help to keep you as parents up to date with classroom activities and school events, as these are often discussed in the classroom.
If you are having difficulty due to extenuating circumstances in meeting attendance requirements, please contact the Parent Coordinator, Mary Semack, at (212) 744-6562 ext 2102 and we will try to find a solution together.
Thank you for your cooperation.
