Dear PS 158 Families,
It is almost impossible to believe that we are approaching the end of our first quarter of blended and remote learning. We are so proud of the resilience, flexibility and enthusiasm demonstrated every day by our entire PS 158 community.
When we reimagined reopening and returning to this very new school year we established expectations and guidelines to protect both the physical and social emotional health of our students and staff to the best of our ability.
To mitigate risks had students in school stay in their classrooms with their cohorts as much as possible. We quickly revised this thinking in cooperation with the DOE to dedicate time for outdoor learning, allowing students time to stretch their bodies and minds. We have continued to watch our children adapt to physical distancing and mask wearing and they have been amazing.
In light of both the health benefits of movement and the children’s ability to follow health and safety rules we have made the decision to allow Physical Education classes to take place outside of classrooms. PE Classes will be held in either the gym, the library or the small cafeteria with their cohort. The health and wellness team of teachers will not be using any equipment during PE classes and all activities will respect physical distance requirements.
We would not be able to grow and evolve our school environment without your trust and cooperation and we are very grateful for both.
